HEIDENHAIN 280-0602 - Error in tool measurement configuration

Error in tool measurement configuration

Tool measurement configuration is incorrect or incomplete, preventing proper measurement functions.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm indicates the TNC control cannot properly initialize or validate the tool measurement system due to incomplete, invalid, or inconsistent configuration data. The control requires all probe geometry, type definitions, and calibration parameters to be correctly specified in both the tchprobe.tp table and relevant machine parameters before tool measurement cycles can execute.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Access touch probe configuration

Press MOD key, enter code if required, navigate to Touch Probe Configuration or System Configuration > Touch Probes to view the current probe table (tchprobe.tp).

On iTNC 530 and TNC 620/640, the path is typically MOD > Settings > Touch Probe > Tool Touch Probe Configuration.

  2. 2

    Verify probe table completeness

Check that the TT probe entry exists with probe number (typically probe 1 or 2), probe type (e.g., TT 140), and all geometry fields (center offset X/Y/Z, stylus radius, stylus length) are populated with numerical values, not empty or zero.

Do not modify probe geometry values unless you have accurate calibration data or plan to recalibrate immediately.

  3. 3

    Restore or re-enter probe data

If entries are missing or corrupted, restore from a known good backup of tchprobe.tp from the TNC:\system\tchprobe.tp directory, or manually re-enter probe configuration data according to machine documentation.

Always maintain backup copies of tchprobe.tp after successful calibration, stored on external media or network location.

  4. 4

    Recalibrate the TT probe

Execute the tool touch probe calibration cycle (typically CYCLING DEF 30 or via the Calibrate Tool Touch Probe menu option) to regenerate valid configuration data and verify probe functionality.

Ensure adequate clearance and proper setup gauge is in position before running calibration cycle.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Hardware signal issues persist after cable checks
  • ·Machine parameters are password protected
  • ·Probe calibration repeatedly fails with known good reference tools

Prevention

  • Establish regular probe calibration schedule based on usage
  • Keep backup of working machine parameters
  • Document probe setup parameters for quick restoration
  • Monitor probe calibration status in daily startup routine

Common Mistakes

  • Skipping probe warm-up period before calibration
  • Using worn or damaged reference tools for calibration
  • Forgetting to update machine parameters after probe hardware changes
  • Not checking probe signal status before running measurement cycles
