HEIDENHAIN 251-0D95 - Internal communication error in oscilloscope

Internal communication error in oscilloscope

An internal communication fault occurred in the oscilloscope while connecting to the Channel Manager module.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm indicates a software-level communication breakdown between the oscilloscope module and the control's core system components. The oscilloscope function relies on real-time data streaming from the servo controllers and NC kernel, and any disruption in this internal data pathway triggers this error. Typically resolved through software reinitialization or configuration reset rather than hardware replacement.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Access File Manager

Press the PGM MGT key, then select 'TNC:\' to access the control's internal directory structure. Navigate to the 'system' folder where oscilloscope configuration files are stored.

Before deleting files, check the file date stamps - recently modified files may indicate when the corruption occurred.

  2. 2

    Backup and Delete Oscilloscope Files

Look for files with extensions .OSC or .TRACE in the TNC:\system\ directory. Copy these files to external storage if needed, then delete them from the system directory. Also check TNC:\service\ for oscilloscope-related temporary files.

Do not delete files you are unsure about. Focus only on oscilloscope configuration files - incorrect deletion may require software reinstallation.

  3. 3

    Restart Control and Reinitialize Oscilloscope

Perform a cold boot by powering off the control completely, waiting 30 seconds, then powering back on. After startup, access the oscilloscope function via MOD > Oscilloscope to force creation of new default configuration files.

The first time you open the oscilloscope after file deletion, it may take longer to load as it rebuilds default settings.

  4. 4

    Reconfigure Trace Channels

Set up a simple trace configuration with only 2-3 basic channels (e.g., axis position values) to verify communication is restored before adding complex trigger conditions or multiple channels.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Alarm persists after system restart
  • ·Multiple communication alarms appear simultaneously
  • ·System becomes unresponsive during troubleshooting

Prevention

  • Regularly monitor system resource usage
  • Avoid running multiple diagnostic tools simultaneously
  • Perform periodic system restarts during maintenance windows

Common Mistakes

  • Attempting to force-restart services during active machining
  • Ignoring system resource warnings
  • Not clearing communication buffers after software updates
