HEIDENHAIN 239-0112 - 112 MC-FSUC: voltage error

112 MC-FSUC: voltage error

This safety-related error indicates a fault in the FS microcontroller. Voltage monitoring reports an error. The control has detected a safety issue that may affect safe operation.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm originates from the MC drive system's safety-rated voltage monitoring detecting DC bus voltage exceeding safe operating thresholds. The FSUC continuously monitors supply voltage integrity and triggers this fault to prevent drive damage or unsafe machine operation when voltage deviations occur due to power supply issues, inadequate regenerative braking capacity, or internal drive hardware failures.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Verify Brake Chopper Operation

Locate the brake chopper status LED on the MC drive module front panel. During normal operation with occasional deceleration, this LED should flash briefly. If LED never illuminates or remains continuously on, the chopper circuit is faulty.

On TNC 640 systems with UM 148C drive modules, the brake chopper has a dedicated diagnostic LED - continuous illumination indicates chopper is saturated and cannot dissipate regenerative energy fast enough.

  2. 2

    Measure External Brake Resistor

Power down and lockout machine, then disconnect external brake resistor from terminals X5A/X5B on MC drive. Measure resistance - typical values are 30-60Ω depending on drive size. Verify resistor wattage rating matches MP7163 (brake resistor power rating parameter).

Brake resistor may remain hot for 30+ minutes after operation. Allow adequate cooling time before handling.

  3. 3

    Check Brake Resistor Configuration

Access machine parameters: MOD > Machine Parameter > General > MP7160 (MC brake configuration). Verify bit 0 is set if external brake resistor is installed. Check MP7162 (brake resistor resistance value) matches physical resistor measurement.

If brake resistor was recently replaced, incorrect MP7162 value will cause improper chopper activation timing, allowing voltage to spike before chopper engages.

  4. 4

    Reduce Deceleration Rates

Temporarily increase deceleration times in active machining programs and acceleration parameters MP1010-MP1015 (axis-specific acceleration values) to reduce regenerative energy. Monitor if alarm clears during operation with extended ramp times.

    Calculate regenerative power using formula: P = (J × ω² / 2t) where J=inertia, ω=angular velocity, t=decel time. Compare to MP7163 brake resistor rating.

Service Recommendedmedium confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Servo drive module replacement required
  • ·Main electrical supply modifications needed
  • ·Insulation breakdown in motors detected
  • ·Multiple simultaneous drive failures

Prevention

  • Schedule annual electrical connection inspections
  • Monitor DC bus voltage trends in preventive maintenance
  • Replace servo drive capacitors every 7-10 years
  • Maintain proper cooling airflow to drives
  • Use line conditioning equipment for voltage stability

Common Mistakes

  • Ignoring intermittent voltage alarms until complete failure
  • Not checking all three phases of supply voltage
  • Replacing drives without testing brake resistors
  • Working on energized servo drives without proper safety procedures
  • Not backing up machine parameters before drive replacement
