HEIDENHAIN 239-0121 - 121 CC-FSUC: temperature error CC (temperature, °C)

121 CC-FSUC: temperature error CC (temperature, °C)

This safety-related error indicates a fault in the FS microcontroller. Temperature monitoring reports an error. The control has detected a safety issue that may affect safe operation.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm originates from the functional safety temperature monitoring circuit within the CC encoder interface module detecting an over-temperature condition. The FSUC (Functional Safety Unit Controller) monitors all CC component temperatures continuously, and when the EnDat interface card exceeds its thermal limit (typically 70-75°C), the safety system triggers this fault. The root cause is either genuine thermal overload from environmental factors or a defective temperature sensor/module providing erroneous readings.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Verify alarm temperature reading

Read the exact temperature from the alarm text parameter %8. Typical CC module operating range is 0-60°C, with alarm threshold at approximately 70-75°C. Document this value for comparison.

Write down the full alarm text including all parameters - the %1 value indicates which encoder channel (X1, X2, etc.) on the CC module is affected.

  2. 2

    Measure actual cabinet ambient temperature

Use an infrared thermometer to measure temperature at the CC component carrier location. Cabinet ambient should not exceed 45°C per Heidenhain specifications. Also check temperature at air intake and exhaust points.

If cabinet ambient exceeds 50°C, immediately improve cooling before resuming operation to prevent further component damage.

  3. 3

    Inspect cabinet ventilation system

Verify all cabinet cooling fans are operational. Check fan filters for blockage - clogged filters are a primary cause of CC overheating. Ensure minimum 400 m³/h airflow for cabinets with multiple CC modules.

Check the airflow direction through the CC carrier - cool air should enter from bottom and exhaust at top. Reversed flow drastically reduces cooling efficiency.

  4. 4

Verify CC module spacing and clearance

Inspect the physical installation of the CC component carrier. Ensure 100mm minimum clearance above and below the carrier, and verify modules are not installed in every consecutive slot - leave empty slots between high-heat modules for airflow.

CC6xxx encoder modules generate more heat than CC61xx digital I/O modules. Distribute encoder interfaces across the carrier rather than grouping them together.

  5. 5

    Monitor cooling improvement effectiveness

After improving ventilation, access MOD > System > CC Configuration and use the diagnostic display to monitor the CC module temperature in real-time. Temperature should stabilize below 55°C during normal operation.

Use TNCdiag software (Service menu > TNCdiag) for continuous temperature logging. This provides trend data showing if cooling improvements are sufficient.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·CC module hardware replacement required
  • ·Complex servo parameter adjustments needed
  • ·Power supply system modifications required

Prevention

  • Maintain regular cabinet filter cleaning schedule
  • Monitor axis current loads during operation
  • Ensure adequate cabinet ventilation design
  • Perform periodic thermal imaging of electrical components

Common Mistakes

  • Ignoring gradual temperature increases before alarm
  • Inadequate cooling system maintenance
  • Operating with excessive cutting parameters
  • Failing to check ambient temperature conditions
