HEIDENHAIN 239-0122 - 122 MC FSUC: temperature error (temperature,°C)

122 MC FSUC: temperature error (temperature,°C)

This safety-related error indicates a fault in the FS microcontroller. Temperature monitoring reports an error. The control has detected a safety issue that may affect safe operation.

Root Cause Summary

The FSUC temperature error occurs when thermal protection monitoring detects excessive heat in the spindle drive inverter power electronics or receives over-temperature signals from the spindle motor thermal sensor. This is typically caused by inadequate cooling due to fan failure, excessive mechanical/electrical loading beyond duty cycle ratings, or actual sensor/wiring faults providing erroneous temperature feedback to the control system.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Verify Fan Operation

Open the electrical cabinet and visually/audibly confirm all FSUC cooling fans are running. Check fan power supply voltage at fan connectors (typically 24VDC or 230VAC depending on configuration). Fans should activate whenever NC power is on.

Disconnect main power and follow lockout/tagout procedures before opening electrical cabinets. Wait 5 minutes for DC bus capacitors to discharge.

  2. 2

    Inspect Airflow Path

Remove and clean all air intake filters on FSUC cabinet. Inspect heatsink fins on FSUC unit for dust buildup and clean with compressed air (max 3 bar pressure). Verify cabinet ventilation slots are not blocked by cables or external obstructions.

Heavy dust accumulation typically indicates inadequate shop air filtration. Consider installing additional filtered intake vents or relocating cabinet away from grinding/sanding operations.

  3. 3

    Check Thermal Imaging

If available, use thermal camera to inspect FSUC heatsink temperatures during operation (compare left/right sides for uniform heat distribution). Hot spots indicate potential failed IGBT modules or poor thermal coupling.

Normal operating temperature for FSUC heatsinks under moderate load is 50-65°C. Temperatures exceeding 75°C with fans running indicate cooling system inadequacy or component failure.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Temperature readings remain high after cooling improvements
  • ·MC FSUC hardware shows signs of damage
  • ·Multiple temperature-related alarms occur simultaneously

Prevention

  • Maintain regular cleaning schedule for cabinet air filters
  • Monitor ambient temperature trends seasonally
  • Ensure adequate clearance around control cabinet
  • Schedule annual thermal inspection of control components

Common Mistakes

  • Ignoring gradual temperature increases over time
  • Blocking cabinet ventilation with stored materials
  • Operating with failed cooling fans
  • Not monitoring temperature trends during high-load machining operations
