231-E190

HEIDENHAIN 231-E190 - E190 RDY.x status of axes stays active (safety relay)

E190 RDY.x status of axes stays active (safety relay)

During the safety-relay test, the -STO.A.G signals of the axes stayed at the inactive (high) level even though the MC commanded the active state. At least one feed or auxiliary axis power stage is therefore not being locked by the safety signal.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 231-E190 indicates the STO (Safe Torque Off) safety relay system is not properly disabling axis power stages when commanded. The '-STO.A.G' feedback signals remain at high level instead of switching to active low level, preventing proper safety circuit verification.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check Safety Relay Status

Navigate to MOD function → Machine Parameters → Safety Parameters and verify STO relay status indicators show proper operation.

Ensure machine is in safe state before accessing safety parameters

  2. 2

    Measure STO Relay Outputs

Using multimeter, measure voltage at STO relay output terminals. Should read 0V when STO is active, 24V when inactive.

Check both normally open and normally closed contacts of the safety relay

  3. 3

    Verify Relay Coil Voltage

Measure 24VDC supply to STO relay coil and confirm proper switching when MC sends enable/disable commands.

Work with qualified electrician when measuring live circuits

  4. 4

    Replace Safety Relay Module

If measurements confirm relay failure, replace with identical Heidenhain-approved safety relay module and reconfigure parameters.

Document all parameter settings before replacement for quick restoration

Service Recommendedmedium confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Safety relay replacement required
  • ·MC module replacement needed
  • ·Multiple STO circuits affected
  • ·Parameter backup not available

Prevention

  • Regular safety circuit testing
  • Maintain parameter backups
  • Monitor STO signal quality
  • Scheduled safety relay replacement

Common Mistakes

  • Ignoring STO signal polarity
  • Testing safety circuits with power on
  • Modifying safety parameters without documentation
  • Bypassing STO feedback verification
