231-E033

HEIDENHAIN 231-E033 - E033 CC FS outputs not "0" 64-95: 96-127

E033 CC FS outputs not "0" 64-95: 96-127

During the watchdog test of the safety self-test, FS outputs 64-127 remained set although they should have been reset. A short circuit of an FS output to +24 V or a hardware defect is the likely cause.

Root Cause Summary

HEIDENHAIN alarm 231-E033 occurs when fail-safe (FS) outputs 64-127 remain active during the safety watchdog self-test cycle, indicating they failed to reset properly. This typically results from hardware short circuits to +24V, defective safety I/O modules, or corrupted safety configuration parameters in the TNC control.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Identify Affected FS Outputs

Check alarm parameters %4 and %5 to decode which specific FS outputs 64-127 are stuck high. Convert hex values to binary to identify individual output bits.

Use TNC calculator function (CALC key) to convert hex alarm parameters to binary for easier bit identification

  2. 2

    Disconnect External Wiring

Power down system and disconnect all external wiring from the identified FS output terminals on the safety I/O modules.

Follow LOTO procedures - safety system must be completely de-energized before disconnecting FS outputs

  3. 3

    Test Output Isolation

Power up control and check if alarm clears. If cleared, short circuit is in external wiring. If alarm persists, internal hardware fault exists.

Use TNC diagnostic screen MOD → Diagnosis → I/O to monitor FS output states in real-time

  4. 4

    Measure Output Voltages

With outputs disconnected, measure voltage on affected FS output terminals. Should read 0V when output commanded off during watchdog test.

Use CAT III rated multimeter - FS outputs can carry significant current when shorted

Service Recommendedlow confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Safety system modifications required
  • ·Hardware replacement needed
  • ·Certification validation required

Prevention

  • Regular safety I/O module inspection
  • Maintain certified safety configuration backups
  • Monitor FS output loading to prevent overheating

Common Mistakes

  • Modifying safety parameters without proper authorization
  • Replacing safety modules with non-certified units
  • Ignoring safety validation requirements after repairs
