HEIDENHAIN 140-004F - Update of the configuration data

Update of the configuration data

The active machine configuration is incompatible with the current NC software version. The configuration files originate from an older software release.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm is a status indicator that the TNC control is actively updating its stored configuration data to reflect changes in software, parameters, or hardware configuration. It typically resolves automatically once the update process completes, but persistent occurrences indicate corrupted configuration files, insufficient storage space, or communication issues between the control kernel and peripheral systems requiring manual intervention through the MOD functions.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Wait for automatic completion

Allow 2-5 minutes for the control to complete the configuration update process. The alarm should clear automatically once all data structures are synchronized with the new software version.

Do not power off the control during this process as it may corrupt configuration data and require complete parameter restoration.

  2. 2

    Verify software version consistency

Press MOD key, navigate to System Information, and verify that NC Software, PLC, and all firmware versions are consistent and match the intended update package. Inconsistent versions indicate incomplete update.

Compare displayed versions against the update documentation - TNC controls require all components (NC kernel, PLC, and drive firmware) to be compatible versions.

  3. 3

    Check configuration backup status

Navigate to MOD > Backup/Restore and verify that machine parameters were properly backed up before the update. If alarm persists after reboot, restore from the pre-update backup.

Always create a full backup including machine parameters (MP), PLC program, and tool tables before any software update on Heidenhain controls.

  4. 4

    Review update log files

Access MOD > System Files > logfiles directory and examine 'update.log' or 'boot.log' files for specific error messages related to configuration data conversion or writing failures.

Look for entries containing 'CONFIG', 'EEPROM', or 'NVRAM' which indicate the specific configuration component being updated.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Factory reset required but no machine documentation available
  • ·Repeated alarm after multiple configuration attempts
  • ·Custom macro or PLC integration conflicts

Prevention

  • Always backup configuration before software updates
  • Document all custom parameter changes
  • Verify software compatibility before restoration
  • Regularly validate configuration integrity

Common Mistakes

  • Restoring configuration from incompatible software version
  • Ignoring software option license requirements
  • Skipping configuration validation after changes
  • Not performing complete restart after configuration updates
