HEIDENHAIN 125-014A - Input not in effect

Input not in effect

The control rejected an entered value. This usually happens when disallowed characters were typed, the numeric format is wrong, or too many digits were placed before or after the decimal point.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm is fundamentally a context-protection mechanism in Heidenhain controls that prevents data corruption or unsafe conditions. The TNC is refusing an input because accepting it would create an inconsistent state given current active functions, compensation modes, or program execution status. The controller prioritizes operational integrity over user input acceptance.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check active tool status

Press the TOOL TABLE key and observe which tool entry has the active marker (typically highlighted or marked with an indicator). Note the current T number displayed in the position display area.

The active tool remains locked even after an M30 if no T0 was called - always use explicit tool deselection for table editing.

  2. 2

    Deselect active tool

Switch to MDI mode (Manual Data Input) and execute 'T0 M6' to deselect the current tool and clear the active tool lock from the tool table.

Ensure machine is in a safe position and no workpiece collision can occur during tool change execution.

  3. 3

    Modify tool table entry

Return to the TOOL TABLE, select the desired tool entry, and make the necessary changes to length, radius, or other tool parameters. Changes should now be accepted without alarm.

Use the editing mode toggle (soft key 'EDIT ON/OFF') if the table appears read-only despite no active tool.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Alarm persists after correcting all input formatting
  • ·Parameter limits appear incorrect for machine specifications
  • ·TNC keyboard keys not responding properly

Prevention

  • Always use decimal point instead of comma for decimal separator
  • Verify parameter ranges before entering large numerical values
  • Use TNC calculator function for complex calculations to ensure proper formatting

Common Mistakes

  • Using comma as decimal separator in European regions
  • Copy-pasting values from CAM systems without format verification
  • Entering imperial values in metric parameter fields without conversion
