HEIDENHAIN 125-0072 - Backup file not found

Backup file not found

During a software update the control creates a backup to allow rollback, but the backup file could not be located on the storage medium. This blocks the restore process.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm indicates a configuration mismatch where the TNC control is programmed or configured to access a specific backup file that does not exist at the referenced location. The root cause is typically either manual deletion of backup files, incorrect path configuration in machine parameters or PLC programs, or inaccessible network storage locations when external backup paths are configured.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Access File Manager

Press PGM MGT key, then select 'TNC:\' and navigate to 'system' folder, then 'backup' subfolder to view all existing backup files and their timestamps.

  2. 2

    Verify backup file naming

Check SystemLog.txt (TNC:\system\log\SystemLog.txt) to identify exact filename the control is searching for. Compare this with actual files present in backup directory.

The log entry will show the complete path and filename that triggered the alarm, making it easy to identify naming mismatches.

  3. 3

    Create new backup file

If backup file is genuinely missing, press MOD key, select 'System Backup', choose 'Create Backup', and save with the expected filename. Ensure proper selection of components (Machine Parameters, PLC, Tool Table, etc.).

  4. 4

    Clear alarm and retest

Press CE key to clear alarm. If alarm was triggered by startup routine, power cycle the control to verify successful backup file access.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·CF card hardware failure detected
  • ·Multiple system files corrupted
  • ·Unable to access machine parameters

Prevention

  • Maintain 30% free space on CF card
  • Use UPS to prevent power interruptions during updates
  • Create regular external backups using TNCbackup utility
  • Monitor system event logs for early warning signs

Common Mistakes

  • Deleting system files to free space
  • Interrupting software updates manually
  • Ignoring low disk space warnings
  • Not verifying backup file integrity after creation
