HAAS Alarm 69 - Hydraulic System Pressure Low

Hydraulic System Pressure Low

This alarm is generated when the hydraulic pressure switch monitoring the hydraulic power unit detects insufficient pressure to operate the drawbar mechanism for tool clamping and unclamping. The IOCON board monitors this switch and will prevent tool changes if pressure is inadequate, typically below 800-1000 PSI. Loss of hydraulic pressure can result in tools falling from the spindle or incomplete tool release during ATC cycles.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 69 occurs when the hydraulic pressure switch detects system pressure below the minimum threshold required for safe machine operation. The NGC control monitors hydraulic pressure through a dedicated input and immediately halts machine functions when pressure drops to prevent axis drift or tool changer malfunctions.

Safety

  • Use proper lockout and tagout procedures before opening hydraulic system for service
  • Be aware that hydraulic fluid may be extremely hot and under high pressure when system running
  • Dispose of used hydraulic fluid according to environmental regulations

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check Hydraulic Reservoir Level

Open electrical cabinet and visually inspect hydraulic tank fluid level through sight gauge. Level should be between MIN and MAX marks.

Ensure machine is powered off and locked out before opening electrical cabinet

  2. 2

    Add Hydraulic Fluid if Low

If below minimum, add ISO 32 hydraulic fluid (Haas P/N 93-32-5050) through reservoir fill cap. Fill to MAX line on sight gauge.

Use only Haas-approved hydraulic fluid to prevent seal damage and maintain warranty

  3. 3

    Check for External Leaks

Inspect hydraulic lines, fittings, and reservoir for visible fluid leaks. Look for wet spots or fluid accumulation around hydraulic components.

Clean area first, then run machine briefly to identify active leak sources

  4. 4

    Cycle System and Monitor

Power on machine and observe pressure gauge during startup. Pressure should build to 500-800 PSI within 30 seconds of pump activation.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Internal hydraulic component failure
  • ·Pump motor replacement required
  • ·Multiple hydraulic circuits affected

Prevention

  • Check hydraulic fluid level weekly
  • Replace filter annually or per 2000-hour schedule
  • Monitor for external leaks during daily inspection
  • Maintain fluid temperature below 140°F

Common Mistakes

  • Using incorrect hydraulic fluid type
  • Overfilling reservoir above MAX line
  • Operating machine with bypass indicator extended
  • Ignoring small external leaks that worsen over time
