Haas Alarm 703 - Lubrication Level Low

LUBE LEVEL LOW

This alarm triggers when the lubrication system oil level sensor detects insufficient oil in the reservoir. The MOCON board receives a low-level signal from a float switch or optical sensor mounted in the lube tank. Machine operation will be inhibited to prevent damage to way surfaces, ballscrews, and linear guides from inadequate lubrication.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 703 LUBE LEVEL LOW fires when the NGC control detects an open circuit from the way lubrication reservoir float switch input (LUB LEVEL on I/O diagnostics). This indicates either actual low oil level in the way lube tank or a faulty float switch circuit preventing proper level detection.

Safety

  • Running without lube causes wear
  • Add oil immediately

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Visual Oil Level Inspection

Open electrical cabinet and visually inspect the way lube reservoir tank. Check oil level against minimum mark on tank sight gauge.

Ensure machine is powered down and locked out before opening electrical cabinet

  2. 2

    Refill Way Lube Reservoir

Add Haas-approved way lubricant (typically ISO 68 slideway oil) to proper level. Fill slowly to avoid overfilling and allow float switch to settle.

Use only Haas-recommended lubricants to prevent float switch sticking or foam formation

  3. 3

    Verify Float Switch Operation

Navigate to DIAGNOSTICS > I/O and monitor LUB LEVEL input while manually lifting float switch. Input should change from 0 to 1 when float rises.

Float switch should actuate smoothly without binding or hesitation

  4. 4

    Clear Alarm and Test Cycle

Press RESET to clear alarm 703, then initiate a test cycle to verify way lube system operation and confirm alarm does not return.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Float switch replacement requires tank removal
  • ·Multiple electrical faults found
  • ·Way lube pump motor issues discovered

Prevention

  • Check way lube level weekly during routine maintenance
  • Use only Haas-approved way lubricants
  • Keep float switch area clean and free of debris
  • Monitor oil condition for contamination signs

Common Mistakes

  • Overfilling reservoir causing float binding
  • Using incorrect lubricant viscosity
  • Ignoring intermittent alarms until complete failure
  • Not checking float switch operation after oil changes
