Haas Alarm 7 - Axis Not Specified

No Axis Assigned

This alarm indicates the control has detected a G-code command that references an axis not physically installed or enabled on the machine. The MOCON board uses parameter settings to define which axes are active, and this alarm fires when the program calls for movement on an undefined axis. The machine will halt program execution until the issue is resolved.

Safety

  • Motion not possible

Common Causes

  • G-code program written for a different machine configuration with more axes than currently installed
  • Parameter 19 (Axis Enable Mask) incorrectly configured and does not match the actual machine axis configuration
  • Fourth or fifth axis referenced in program but rotary table or trunnion is not physically connected or powered
  • MOCON board firmware corruption causing axis configuration data to be lost or misread
  • Manual G-code entry error where operator typed incorrect axis letter that does not exist on the machine

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Step 1: Review the current program line displayed on screen and identify which axis letter is being called that does not exist on your machine configuration
  2. 2Step 2: Press CURRENT COMMANDS and verify Parameter 19 shows correct axis enable mask for your machine (3-axis mill should show bits for X Y Z only)
  3. 3Step 3: If program requires an axis not installed, edit the program to remove references to that axis or load the correct program for this machine
  4. 4Step 4: Check Settings 91-95 (Axis Designation) to confirm each physical axis is properly mapped to the correct letter designation
  5. 5Step 5: If a rotary axis is installed but not recognized, verify the rotary drive is powered on and cables are connected to the MOCON axis connector
  6. 6Step 6: Perform a Parameter Reset or restore factory parameters for your specific machine model if axis configuration data appears corrupted, then re-enter custom parameter changes
