HAAS Alarm 67 - Coolant System Pressure Low

Coolant System Pressure Low

This alarm triggers when the through-spindle coolant (TSC) pressure switch indicates insufficient pressure at the spindle nose for safe machining operations. The IOCON board monitors the pressure switch input and generates this alarm when pressure drops below the switch setpoint, typically 300-500 PSI depending on machine configuration. The machine will pause or stop the cycle to prevent tool damage from inadequate coolant flow.

Root Cause Summary

Haas Alarm 67 fires when the coolant pressure switch detects insufficient pressure in the coolant delivery system, typically below 15-20 PSI operating threshold. The NGC control monitors coolant pressure through a dedicated pressure switch input that triggers this safety alarm to prevent machining without adequate coolant flow.

Safety

  • Do not operate spindle when coolant pressure is low to prevent tool breakage and thermal damage
  • Be cautious when opening coolant reservoir as interior surfaces may retain heat from operation
  • Use proper coolant handling procedures and dispose of coolant according to environmental regulations

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check Coolant Tank Level

Visually inspect the coolant tank level through the sight gauge. Minimum level should be above the pump intake fitting.

Never run coolant pump dry as this will damage the pump seals and impeller

  2. 2

    Refill Coolant Tank

Add appropriate coolant mixture (typically 5-10% concentration) to bring level to proper operating height marked on tank.

Use a refractometer to verify coolant concentration - too weak reduces cooling effectiveness

  3. 3

    Prime Coolant System

Press COOLANT button on control panel to activate pump and purge air from system. Monitor pressure gauge for proper reading.

May take 30-60 seconds for system to fully prime and reach operating pressure

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Pump motor replacement required
  • ·Electrical troubleshooting beyond basic voltage checks
  • ·Persistent alarm after all basic checks completed

Prevention

  • Monitor coolant level daily
  • Replace coolant filters on schedule
  • Maintain proper coolant concentration
  • Clean coolant tank monthly

Common Mistakes

  • Running pump dry during troubleshooting
  • Over-tightening filter causing housing damage
  • Ignoring gradual pressure decline
  • Using incorrect coolant mixture ratios
