HAAS Alarm 66 - Tool Changer Position Error
Alarm 66 fires when the tool changer carousel position feedback doesn't match the control's expected position after a tool change command. This typically occurs due to mechanical issues with the carousel drive system, encoder problems, or parameter corruption affecting position tracking.
HAAS Alarm 66 - Tool Changer Position Error
Tool Changer Position Error
This alarm indicates the tool changer carousel or umbrella failed to reach its commanded position within the allowed timeout period. The MOCON board monitors encoder or proximity switch feedback from the ATC motor and compares actual position to commanded position. The machine will halt all operations and the tool changer will stop moving to prevent tool crashes or carousel damage.

Safety
Causes and Fixes
Inspect Drive Belt Condition
Open the tool changer cover and visually inspect the carousel drive belt for cracks, stretching, or complete failure. Check belt tension by pressing with moderate finger pressure - should deflect 1/4 inch maximum.
Ensure spindle is stopped and machine is in emergency stop before opening covers.
Check Belt Alignment and Pulleys
Verify the drive belt is properly seated on both the motor pulley and carousel drive pulley. Look for worn pulley teeth or debris causing misalignment.
Mark the belt and pulley with a Sharpie to verify they're moving together during manual rotation.
Test Manual Carousel Movement
With power off, manually rotate the carousel one full revolution and check for binding, unusual resistance, or inconsistent movement that could cause belt slippage.
The carousel should move smoothly with consistent resistance throughout the full rotation.
Replace Drive Belt if Necessary
If belt shows wear or damage, replace with genuine Haas part. Ensure proper tension - too loose causes slippage, too tight causes premature wear and motor strain.
