Haas 302 - INVALID R IN G02 OR G03 | Haas CNC Alarm

INVALID R IN G02 OR G03

This alarm occurs when the control detects a G02 or G03 circular interpolation command that does not include a valid R value or the R value specified creates a geometrically impossible arc. The MOCON performs real-time trajectory calculations and cannot generate a valid toolpath when the radius specified is smaller than half the distance between start and end points. Program execution stops at the block containing the error.

Root Cause Summary

Haas Alarm 302 Y AXIS LIMIT + occurs when the Y-axis attempts to move beyond its positive software or hardware limit during program execution. This alarm fires when the NGC control detects the commanded Y-axis position exceeds the maximum travel limit defined in Parameter 221 (Y+ Software Limit) or when the +Y limit switch is triggered.

Safety

  • Jog slowly away from limit

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check Current Y Position

Press CURRENT COMMANDS and note the Y-axis position. Compare to Parameter 221 value in SETTING > PARAMETERS menu.

Use HANDLE JOG to move away from limit if close to boundary

  2. 2

    Verify Program Coordinates

Review G-code for Y-axis moves. Check if Work Coordinate System (G54-G59) offsets are pushing moves beyond machine limits.

Always verify work offsets before running programs on different setups

  3. 3

    Adjust Software Limits

If machine physically capable, increase Parameter 221 (Y+ Software Limit) value. Requires Parameter Lock Code entry.

Leave 0.1-0.2 inch safety margin from actual mechanical limit

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Servo drive faults persist after basic troubleshooting
  • ·Mechanical damage to ballscrew or guides
  • ·Limit switch replacement needed
  • ·Position feedback errors continue after reference return

Prevention

  • Regularly verify work offsets before program execution
  • Set conservative software limits with safety margins
  • Perform daily reference return cycles
  • Keep Y-axis travel path clear of debris

Common Mistakes

  • Ignoring work offset values when setting up new jobs
  • Setting software limits too close to mechanical limits
  • Using LIMIT OVERRIDE to force movement into limits
  • Not performing reference return after power cycling
