Fanuc Alarm IO0003 - Media Write Protected
IO0003 alarm occurs when the CNC attempts to write data to storage media (USB, CF card, or floppy disk) that has physical or software write protection enabled. This is a protective measure preventing program or parameter overwrites when the media's write-protect switch is activated or the media properties are set to read-only.
Fanuc Alarm IO0003 - Media Write Protected
Device Write Protected
Fanuc IO0003: The external I/O device is write-protected. The CNC attempted to write data (save a program, log data) to the device but write access is not permitted.
Root Cause Summary
IO0003 alarm occurs when the CNC attempts to write data to storage media (USB, CF card, or floppy disk) that has physical or software write protection enabled. This is a protective measure preventing program or parameter overwrites when the media's write-protect switch is activated or the media properties are set to read-only.
Safety
Causes and Fixes
Remove the storage media (USB/CF card/SD card) from the CNC control panel or card reader slot.
Inspect the media for a physical write-protect switch: USB drives typically have a sliding switch on the housing; SD cards have a lock tab on the left side; CF cards may have a recessed switch. Slide the switch to the unlocked/write-enabled position.
Reinsert the media into the CNC and verify recognition by navigating to EDIT > [DEVICE] soft key to confirm the media appears in the directory listing.
Retry the write operation (program save, parameter backup, or file transfer). Press RESET to clear the IO0003 alarm if the operation completes successfully.
