Fanuc Alarm OH0700 - CNC Control Cabinet Overheat

Control Unit Overheat

Thermal protection alarm activated. The control unit overheat has exceeded safe operating temperature and requires immediate attention to prevent component damage.

Root Cause Summary

The OH0700 alarm indicates the CNC control cabinet temperature has exceeded the thermal threshold, typically 55°C (131°F) at the internal temperature sensor. This is most commonly caused by cooling fan failure, blocked air intake/exhaust vents, or excessive ambient temperature in the machine environment. Immediate shutdown is required to prevent permanent damage to PCBs, power supply modules, and servo amplifiers.

Safety

  • Control may shut down
  • Electronics may be damaged

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Power down the system and open the control cabinet door. Visually inspect all cooling fans (typically rear panel and internal fans) for rotation damage or debris accumulation.

Allow 5 minutes after power-off for capacitors to discharge before opening cabinet.

  2. 2

Remove and clean all fan filters with compressed air or replace if excessively clogged. Check fan intake and exhaust vents on cabinet exterior for blockage or obstruction.

  3. 3

Power on and verify all fans are spinning at normal speed (audible hum and visible rotation). Check fan connector terminals on power supply board for loose connections or voltage (typically 24VDC).

  4. 4

Replace any failed fans with exact Fanuc replacement part numbers. After fan replacement, clear alarm and monitor cabinet temperature via PMC ladder or maintenance screen for 30 minutes under normal operation.
