Fanuc Alarm 751 - Spindle Speed Error

Spindle Speed Deviation

Fanuc spindle alarm 751: Spindle Speed Deviation. The spindle speed has deviated beyond the allowable tolerance from the commanded value, or an abnormal speed condition was detected.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 751 indicates the CNC has detected a fault condition in the first spindle amplifier (SP1). The alarm is a gateway notification requiring technicians to read the two-digit LED code displayed on the spindle amplifier itself to identify the specific fault (overcurrent, overvoltage, encoder error, thermal trip, etc.).

Safety

  • Reduce spindle load

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Check the two-digit alarm code on the spindle amplifier 7-segment LED display. Record the exact code (e.g., 11, 25, 50, 64, 86, etc.).

  2. 2

Navigate to SYSTEM > DIAGNOSIS > [SPINDLE] screen and check diagnostic numbers D0100-D0117 for spindle load meter, actual speed, and motor current values to confirm abnormal conditions.

  3. 3

Verify spindle amplifier parameters match motor nameplate: Check parameters 4001 (motor type), 4002 (motor serial number), 4020-4026 (rated voltage, current, speed, poles) in SYSTEM > PARAM > [SPINDLE] screen.

Incorrect motor parameters can cause immediate amplifier trips and motor damage. Always verify against motor nameplate data.

  4. 4

If AL-11 (overcurrent): Check for mechanical binding, seized bearings, or tool crash damage. If AL-25/26 (overvoltage): Inspect regenerative resistor and discharge circuit. If AL-50/64 (encoder): Check encoder cable, battery, and connector X5 on amplifier.

DIY Feasiblemedium confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Spindle amplifier hardware replacement needed
  • ·Encoder replacement required
  • ·Parameter corruption requiring factory reset

Prevention

  • Regular inspection of spindle control cables
  • Periodic verification of spindle parameters
  • Avoid rapid mode switching during operation

Common Mistakes

  • Attempting mode switch while spindle rotating
  • Ignoring sub-alarm codes on amplifier display
  • Incorrect C-axis encoder parameter settings
