Fanuc 530 - Spindle overvoltage
Alarm 530 indicates the DC bus voltage in the spindle drive has exceeded safe operating limits, typically above 800VDC. This overvoltage condition is most commonly caused by regenerative energy from the spindle motor not being properly dissipated during deceleration, or by external power supply issues feeding excessive voltage into the drive.

SPINDLE OVERVOLTAGE
Fanuc spindle alarm 530: SPINDLE OVERVOLTAGE. The spindle drive or spindle motor has detected a fault condition that requires diagnosis before spindle operation can resume.
Root Cause Summary
Alarm 530 indicates the DC bus voltage in the spindle drive has exceeded safe operating limits, typically above 800VDC. This overvoltage condition is most commonly caused by regenerative energy from the spindle motor not being properly dissipated during deceleration, or by external power supply issues feeding excessive voltage into the drive.
Safety
Causes and Fixes
Check spindle deceleration rate parameters (especially parameter 4013 for deceleration time). If set too aggressively short, increase deceleration time to reduce regenerative energy.
Inspect the regenerative discharge resistor (RDR) connections on the spindle drive unit. Look for burned, loose, or corroded terminals at TB connections.
Disconnect all power and wait 15 minutes for capacitors to discharge before touching any drive components.
Measure resistance of the regenerative resistor bank. Typical values are 40-80 ohms depending on drive size. Open circuit or significantly high resistance indicates resistor failure.
Monitor DC bus voltage at the drive during spindle deceleration using drive diagnostics or maintenance screen. Voltage should not exceed 750-780VDC for 400V class drives.
