Fanuc Alarm 437 - Servo Parameter Invalid

Parameter Invalid

Fanuc alarm 437: Parameter Invalid. This alarm indicates a fault condition detected by the Fanuc control. Refer to the alarm number and name to identify the specific system or function involved.

Root Cause Summary

Fanuc Alarm 437 indicates the Power Supply Module (PSM) has detected overcurrent in its input circuit, triggering protective shutdown. This is typically caused by shorted input wiring from the main power supply, degraded DC link capacitors in the PSM allowing excessive inrush current, or internal PSM component failure in the converter section.

Safety

  • Wrong parameters can cause runaway

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Power down the system completely and lock out main breaker. Visually inspect all three-phase input wiring (R, S, T terminals) on the PSM for physical damage, pinched insulation, burn marks, or contamination.

Ensure proper LOTO procedures - residual high voltage remains in DC link capacitors for several minutes after shutdown

  2. 2

Using a megohm meter (500V setting), perform insulation resistance tests between each R/S/T input conductor and ground with wires disconnected from PSM. Minimum acceptable reading is 10 megohms; anything below 1 megohm indicates insulation failure.

  3. 3

Check continuity between R-S, S-T, and T-R phases with wires disconnected. Any reading below infinite resistance indicates a phase-to-phase short requiring immediate cable replacement.

  4. 4

Inspect PSM input terminal block for carbon tracking, loose connections causing arcing, or foreign debris bridging terminals. Clean with electrical contact cleaner and verify torque to specification (typically 1.5-2.0 N·m for αi series PSMs).

Service Recommendedmedium confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·High voltage electrical work required
  • ·PSM replacement needed
  • ·Internal component testing required

Prevention

  • Regular inspection of AC input wiring
  • Monitor DC bus voltage trends
  • Replace main capacitors every 7-10 years
  • Maintain proper input voltage regulation

Common Mistakes

  • Not discharging capacitors before testing
  • Ignoring input voltage specifications
  • Replacing PSM without checking input wiring
  • Not backing up parameters before PSM replacement
