Fanuc 273 - High speed skip axis error

HIGH SPEED SKIP AXIS ERROR

Fanuc PS program alarm 273: HIGH SPEED SKIP AXIS ERROR. This alarm is triggered by an illegal or incorrectly formatted command in the part program, or a programming condition that the Fanuc control cannot execute.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 273 occurs when a high-speed skip signal (G31) command is programmed with an axis specification error or conflict. This typically happens when the skip function is called without proper axis movement defined, or when multiple conflicting axes are specified in the same block with the high-speed skip command.

Safety

  • Verify corrected program or parameters before resuming machining

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Locate the program line number shown with the alarm and examine the G31 block in the part program.

  2. 2

Verify that at least one valid axis (X, Y, Z, etc.) with a target coordinate is specified in the G31 block (e.g., G31 Z-50.0 F500).

  3. 3

Check for typographical errors in axis letters or missing coordinate values following the axis designation.

  4. 4

Correct the G31 block to include proper axis movement and re-run the program from a safe position.

Always perform a dry run or single block execution after program modification to verify correct operation.
