Fanuc 247 - Too many axes in block

TOO MANY AXES IN BLOCK

Fanuc PS program alarm 247: TOO MANY AXES IN BLOCK. This alarm is triggered by an illegal or incorrectly formatted command in the part program, or a programming condition that the Fanuc control cannot execute.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 247 occurs when a single NC program block contains movement commands for more axes than the control can process simultaneously, or when the same axis is commanded multiple times within one block. This is typically caused by programming errors where duplicate axis addresses exist in the same line, or when attempting to command more axes than the machine configuration supports.

Safety

  • Verify corrected program or parameters before resuming machining

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Identify the exact block number from the alarm display or program cursor position on the control screen.

  2. 2

Review the flagged NC block line-by-line and look for any axis letter (X, Y, Z, A, B, C, etc.) that appears more than once.

  3. 3

Remove the duplicate axis command or split the block into multiple sequential blocks, keeping only one command per axis per block.

  4. 4

Reset the alarm, return to program start or the corrected block, and test run in single block mode to verify the correction.
