Fanuc 185 - Cannot command in cylindrical interpolation
Alarm 185 occurs when the CNC detects an incompatible G-code command or motion axis while cylindrical interpolation mode (G07.1) is active. Certain operations like canned cycles, tool radius compensation, or commanding restricted axes cannot be executed during cylindrical interpolation and will trigger this alarm.
Fanuc 185 - Cannot command in cylindrical interpolation
CANNOT COMMAND IN CYLINDRICAL INTERPOLATION
Fanuc PS program alarm 185: CANNOT COMMAND IN CYLINDRICAL INTERPOLATION. This alarm is triggered by an illegal or incorrectly formatted command in the part program, or a programming condition that the Fanuc control cannot execute.
Root Cause Summary
Alarm 185 occurs when the CNC detects an incompatible G-code command or motion axis while cylindrical interpolation mode (G07.1) is active. Certain operations like canned cycles, tool radius compensation, or commanding restricted axes cannot be executed during cylindrical interpolation and will trigger this alarm.
Safety
Causes and Fixes
Review the program block that triggered the alarm and identify all active G-codes. Check parameter display or program stop position on the control screen.
Verify if G07.1 cylindrical interpolation mode is active. Check modal G-code display on the CNC screen to confirm active modes.
Remove or relocate prohibited commands (canned cycles, G41/G42, G15/G16, or helical interpolation) to program sections outside the G07.1 active block.
Ensure G07.1 is properly canceled with G07.1 C0 before using incompatible commands
If canned cycles are required, cancel cylindrical mode with G07.1 C0, execute the canned cycle, then re-enable G07.1 with proper axis assignment if needed.
