Fanuc 191 - Illegal command in helical interpolation
Alarm 191 occurs when the CNC detects an improperly formatted helical interpolation command (G02/G03 with I, J, K arc parameters combined with a third axis for helical motion). The most common causes are mixing incompatible G-code commands in the same block, incorrectly specifying the helical axis, or programming a helical move that violates the control's geometric constraints.

ILLEGAL COMMAND IN HELICAL INTERPOLATION
Fanuc PS program alarm 191: ILLEGAL COMMAND IN HELICAL INTERPOLATION. This alarm is triggered by an illegal or incorrectly formatted command in the part program, or a programming condition that the Fanuc control cannot execute.
Root Cause Summary
Alarm 191 occurs when the CNC detects an improperly formatted helical interpolation command (G02/G03 with I, J, K arc parameters combined with a third axis for helical motion). The most common causes are mixing incompatible G-code commands in the same block, incorrectly specifying the helical axis, or programming a helical move that violates the control's geometric constraints.

Causes and Fixes
Locate the block number shown in the alarm display and review the part program at that line.
Verify the helical block contains ONLY G02 or G03, arc center parameters (I, J, K or R), the circular plane axes (e.g., X, Y), and ONE additional axis for the helix (e.g., Z).
Remove any canned cycles, rapid positioning commands, coordinate system commands, or cutter compensation calls from the helical interpolation block.
If tool offset or work coordinate changes are needed, program them in a separate block before or after the helical move.
