Fanuc Alarm 115 - VARIABLE NO. OUT OF RANGE

VARIABLE NO. OUT OF RANGE

Fanuc PS115: A macro variable number used in a custom macro program is outside the valid range for the variable type. Variable numbers must be within the defined range for system, common, or local variables.

Root Cause Summary

Fanuc Alarm 115 occurs when a WAIT signal (typically M-code wait signals such as M00, M01, FIN signal, or custom macro WAIT commands) does not turn OFF within the time limit defined by parameter 3111 (WAIT signal timeout). This indicates the CNC is waiting for an external device, PLC ladder logic, or macro condition that has not responded properly.

Safety

  • Operation blocked

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Access PMC diagnostics: Press SYSTEM > PMC > PMCDGN or PMC LADDER to check signal states. Monitor G007.7 (FIN signal) and relevant M-code completion signals (typically F-addresses assigned to specific M-codes in the ladder).

  2. 2

Check parameter 3111 (WAIT signal timeout) via SYSTEM > PARAM > search 3111. Default is typically 60000ms (60 seconds). Verify if timeout value is appropriate for the machine operation cycle time.

  3. 3

Review PMC ladder logic for the specific M-code or wait condition active when alarm occurred. Verify the ladder includes proper interlock reset logic and completion signal output. Check for stuck relay coils or missing completion pulse generation.

  4. 4

Monitor I/O signals via SYSTEM > PMC > I/O to verify external devices (coolant pumps, tool changers, tailstocks) are sending completion signals back to the machine. Check X-address inputs corresponding to limit switches or proximity sensors.

Ensure machine is in safe state before testing. Some devices may require manual reset after timeout condition.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·PMC ladder modification required
  • ·I/O module replacement needed
  • ·Persistent signal issues after parameter adjustments

Prevention

  • Validate macro variable ranges during program development
  • Set appropriate wait time parameters for external device response
  • Implement proper signal monitoring in PMC ladder logic
  • Regular inspection of I/O connections and external device response times

Common Mistakes

  • Using variable numbers outside valid ranges
  • Setting wait times too short for external devices
  • Ignoring PMC alarms that precede program alarms
  • Not verifying signal logic before running new programs
