Fanuc Alarm 074 - Invalid Program Number

Illegal Program Number

Fanuc program alarm 074: Illegal Program Number. The part program contains an error or illegal condition that the Fanuc control cannot execute. Correct the program to clear this alarm.

Root Cause Summary

Fanuc Alarm 074 occurs when the CNC attempts to call, execute, or register a program with an invalid program number format or value. This typically happens when the program number exceeds the allowable range defined by system parameters, contains non-numeric characters, or violates the naming conventions set by parameters 3107 and 3108.

Safety

  • Program cannot be registered

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Press SYSTEM key, then soft key [PARAM]. Verify Parameter 3107 (minimum program number) and Parameter 3108 (maximum program number). Default is typically 1 and 9999 respectively.

  2. 2

Check the program number being called via M98 P____ or G65 P____ or being registered. Ensure it falls within the range defined by parameters 3107-3108.

  3. 3

If the program number is valid but parameters are restrictive, modify Parameter 3108 to expand the allowable range. Bit parameter 3107#0 may also affect 8-digit program number capability.

Parameter write enable (PWE) must be set to 1. Changing these parameters affects all program registration and calling functions.

  4. 4

Reset the alarm using RESET key and re-attempt program call or registration with corrected program number.
