Block tool change not possible. Magazine location no. not

The desired tool change is not possible. The indicated magazine location is not available in the indicated magazine Control reaction: Correction block is reorganized. Interface signals are set. Alarm display.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 6455 indicates that the NCK tool management system cannot locate the requested tool at the specified magazine position. This occurs when the tool changer receives a T-code with a magazine location that either doesn't exist in the configured magazine structure, exceeds the maximum pocket count, or the magazine position data in the tool table is inconsistent with the physical magazine configuration.

Safety

  • Only qualified personnel should diagnose and clear control alarms; follow the machine builder's safety procedures and lockout/tagout where hardware work is required.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

In Siemens HMI, navigate to Diagnosis > Parameters > Machine Data and verify MD 32100 (MaxToolsInMagazine) matches your actual magazine pocket count. Common values: 20, 24, 30, 40 pockets.

Changes to MD 32100 require a warm restart (warm reboot) of the NCK.

  2. 2

Cross-reference the T-code in the NC program block against the tool table (Tools > Tool Management > Tool Table). Confirm the magazine location column does not reference pockets beyond the configured maximum.

  3. 3

If using multiple magazines, verify MD 32110 (MagazineType) is correctly set (0=linear, 1=carousel, 2=matrix). Each type has different pocket addressing schemes.
