Siemens 310608 - Axis drive speed controller at limit

Axis drive speed controller at limit

The speed controller output is lying for an impermissibly long time at its limit (MD 5605: SPEEDCTRL_LIMIT_TIME (speed controller limit time)). The monitoring system is only active when the speed setpoint is below the speed threshold in MD 5606: SPEEDCTRL_LIMIT_THRESHOLD (speed controller limit threshold) Control reaction: Mode group not ready. The NC switches to follow-up mode. Channel not ready. NC Start disable in this channel. Interface signals are set. Alarm display. NC Stop on alarm. Channel not ready.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm indicates the speed controller output is at its limit for too long, often due to incorrect program parameters or settings affecting axis speed control. Fix by reviewing and adjusting the program or machine data settings.

Safety

  • Drive/power/encoder circuit: hazardous voltages may remain in the DC link after power-off. Lock out / tag out, wait for discharge per the drive documentation, and use qualified personnel only.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

SAFETY FIRST - Stop machine and clear area

Ensure machine is in a safe state, E-stop accessible, and work area is clear before making any changes.

  2. 2

    Check program parameters

Review the speed and feedrate values in the program for the affected axis.

  3. 3

    Adjust values

Reduce speed or feedrate to within acceptable limits as per machine specs.

  4. 4

    Test run

Clear the alarm and run the program in simulation or single-block mode to verify.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·If adjustments to program or MD settings do not resolve the alarm
  • ·If unsure about safe MD value changes

Prevention

  • Validate speed/feedrate against machine limits before running
  • Use simulation mode to catch parameter issues early
  • Perform regular mechanical inspections and lubrication
  • Monitor cutting forces and tool wear

Common Mistakes

  • Overlooking axis-specific speed limits in the program
  • Incorrectly adjusting unrelated machine data
