Siemens 22260 - Spindle thread might be damaged

Spindle thread might be damaged

When DECODING SINGLE BLOCK has been selected and there is a chain of thread blocks, then machining pauses occur at the block limits until the next block is executed with the new NC Start. In normal single block mode, the program is stopped by a higher-level logic only at the block boundaries at which no contour distortions or contour errors can occur. With chained thread blocks, this is the last thread block! Control reaction: Alarm display.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 22260 indicates potential thread damage detected during single-block execution with threading cycles on the specified spindle. This alarm occurs when DECODING SINGLE BLOCK mode is active and sequential threading blocks are interrupted at block boundaries, preventing continuous thread formation and causing thread runout/damage.

Safety

  • Spindle hazard: ensure the spindle is at standstill before working near it; follow lockout/tagout procedures.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Check MD20070 (SINGLE_BLOCK_DECODING) in Diagnostics > Parameter > Machine Data. Navigate to NCK > General > Single_Block_Decoding and verify setting is appropriate for threading operations.

Do not enable DECODING SINGLE BLOCK for threading programs; disable for G33/G34/G35 cycles.

  2. 2

Verify MD20150 (SINGLE_BLOCK_MASK) to confirm threading blocks are excluded from single-block mode restrictions.

  3. 3

Modify NC program to remove or comment out DECODING SINGLE BLOCK statement before threading cycles; use standard SINGLE BLOCK (MD20066) instead.
