Siemens 22200 - Spindle axis stopped during tapping

Spindle axis stopped during tapping

When tapping with compensating chuck (G63) the drilling axis was stopped via the NC/PLC interface and the spindle continues to rotate. The thread and possibly also the tap were damaged as a result Control reaction: NC Start disable in this channel. Interface signals are set. Alarm display.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 22200 fires when the tapping axis (drilling axis) is stopped via NC/PLC interface while spindle rotation continues during G63 compensating chuck tapping cycle. This decoupling between axis motion and spindle speed causes immediate thread damage and tap breakage due to the mismatch between feed rate and spindle RPM.

Safety

  • Spindle hazard: ensure the spindle is at standstill before working near it; follow lockout/tagout procedures.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Check PLC program logic in NCK/PLC interface. Review axis stop signals (typically in MD 32100-32110 axis interface parameters) and verify no external stop commands are issued during active G63 cycles.

Do not disable safety interlocks; verify they are not being triggered inadvertently.

  2. 2

Examine SPF (Spindle Function) block parameters in the NC program. Confirm MD 36300 (spindle control mode) is set to 1 (position-synchronized) and MD 36400 (spindle encoder) is properly configured for tapping.

  3. 3

Inspect SIEMENS safety function blocks (SFB) if used for axis control. Verify G63 tapping is not interrupted by emergency stop or conditional axis disable logic in safety PLCs.
