Siemens 22054 - Block spindle improper punching signal

Block spindle improper punching signal

If the punching signal is irregular between the punching strokes, this alarm is generated according to a machine data Control reaction: Alarm display.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 22054 indicates the spindle punching signal (typically a proximity sensor or encoder pulse used for synchronization) is irregular or missing between successive punching strokes on a SINUMERIK 840D system. This occurs when the NCK detects signal anomalies that violate the punching signal monitoring parameters defined in machine data, preventing reliable spindle positioning for tool change or indexing operations.

Safety

  • Spindle hazard: ensure the spindle is at standstill before working near it; follow lockout/tagout procedures.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Access Diagnostics > Spindle > Signals menu on the 840D operator panel. Verify the punching signal status in real-time by observing the raw sensor input before NCK processing. Note any intermittent dropouts or phase jitter.

Do not adjust machine data while spindle is rotating.

  2. 2

Physically inspect the proximity sensor and target cam/flag on the spindle. Check sensor mounting bracket for looseness (typical torque specification 5-8 Nm), and verify air gap is within manufacturer specification (typically 2-4 mm for inductive sensors).

Ensure spindle is at standstill and locked via M19 before physical inspection.

  3. 3

Clean sensor lens and verify target cam surface is free of oil, chips, or magnetic debris. Use compressed air or soft cloth; avoid solvents that may damage sensor housing.

  4. 4

If signal remains irregular, replace the proximity sensor. Verify new sensor output impedance and switching frequency match original specification before NCK commissioning.
