Siemens 840D 22058 - Channel block for leading spindle coupling as following
Alarm 22058 fires when an attempt is made to establish a spindle coupling where the leading spindle/axis is already configured as a following spindle/axis in a different active coupling. SINUMERIK does not support chained or cascaded couplings, as this creates circular dependencies in the coupling hierarchy that cannot be resolved during NC block execution.

Channel block for leading spindle coupling as following
Siemens SINUMERIK 840D alarm 22058: Channel block for leading spindle coupling as following. This alarm indicates a spindle-related fault or programming error on the specified channel. The affected spindle function cannot be executed.
Root Cause Summary
Alarm 22058 fires when an attempt is made to establish a spindle coupling where the leading spindle/axis is already configured as a following spindle/axis in a different active coupling. SINUMERIK does not support chained or cascaded couplings, as this creates circular dependencies in the coupling hierarchy that cannot be resolved during NC block execution.
Safety
Causes and Fixes
Review the NC program block sequence around the alarm location. Identify the COUPLE command that triggered alarm 22058 and note the spindle numbers involved (leading and following).
Check all active COUPLE statements in the running program or initialization code. Use Siemens SINUMERIK debugging tools to inspect the current coupling state via MD 37100 (Spindle coupling) parameters and the coupling register. Verify which spindles are currently configured as leading versus following members.
Inspect HMI > Diagnosis > Parameters > Machine Data > Spindle Data (MD 37xxx) to view real-time coupling status.
If chained couplings are functionally required, restructure the NC program to DECOUPLE the first coupling before establishing the second. Ensure the leading spindle in the new coupling is not an active following member in any existing coupling.
SINUMERIK does not support multi-level coupling hierarchies; all couplings must share the same leading spindle or involve different spindle sets entirely.
Verify MD 37110, MD 37120, and MD 37130 (spindle coupling parameters) are correctly configured for your application topology. Confirm that the coupling definition does not inadvertently reference spindles that are already bound in other couplings via initialization data or macro calls.
