22040

Siemens 22040 - Block spindle is not referenced with zero marker

Block spindle is not referenced with zero marker

The current position is not referenced with the measuring system position although reference is made to it Control reaction: Alarm display.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 22040 occurs when the spindle position is commanded to be referenced against the MS (Master/Zero Marker) zero point, but the spindle encoder has not been properly synchronized with this reference position. This typically manifests when oriented spindle positioning (OSP) or synchronized spindle functions attempt operations without a valid MS position reference in the current cycle.

Safety

  • Spindle hazard: ensure the spindle is at standstill before working near it; follow lockout/tagout procedures.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

In Siemens HMI, navigate to Spindle > Parameters > MD 3300 (Spindle encoder assignment). Verify the encoder type supports MS detection (typically incremental encoder with MS pulse channel). Cross-reference with actual hardware configuration.

Do not change MD 3300 while spindle is rotating.

  2. 2

Perform spindle encoder referencing: Execute Diagnostic > Spindle > Initialize Encoder or use NC command G74 (spindle orient to zero marker) to force MS detection. Monitor encoder signals via Diagnostics > Signals > Spindle Encoder to confirm MS pulse appearance.

Ensure spindle is at standstill and safe position before executing G74.

  3. 3

Check SD 43340 (Spindle position actual value referenced to MS). After initialization, this value should equal zero. If it shows offset, the MS reference frame is corrupted; perform full spindle re-zeroing or replace encoder if signal is absent.

  4. 4

Verify MD 32400 (Spindle reference mode) is set to '1' (MS-based referencing required) if synchronized positioning is needed. If set to '0', MS referencing is optional and may allow the alarm to persist in certain positioning modes.
