Siemens 16671 - Block following axis/spindle maximum number of CP modules
Alarm 16671 is triggered when an NC block attempts to activate more generic couplings (via G-code or PLC command) than the maximum number configured in MD18450 (Maximum Number of Generic Couplings). This exceeds the NCK's coupling capacity for the specified spindle or axis.

Root Cause Summary
Alarm 16671 is triggered when an NC block attempts to activate more generic couplings (via G-code or PLC command) than the maximum number configured in MD18450 (Maximum Number of Generic Couplings). This exceeds the NCK's coupling capacity for the specified spindle or axis.
Safety
Causes and Fixes
Access Siemens SINUMERIK 840D HMI > Diagnostics > Alarms > Filter for 16671. Note the channel number (%1), block number (%2), and affected axis/spindle (%3).
Navigate to Machine Data > MD18450 (Maximum Number of Generic Couplings) and verify the configured value. Cross-reference against your current coupling declarations in the NC program or coupling setup.
MD18450 is a global parameter affecting all channels; increasing it may require NCK restart.
If couplings are legitimately required, increase MD18450 to the required count. If not, audit the NC program for redundant or erroneous COUPLE commands targeting the spindle/axis in question.
Save machine data changes via HMI and perform a controlled NCK restart (warm start). Reload and test the affected NC program block.
Verify no active machine cycles are running before restarting the NCK.
