Siemens 16670 - Block following axis/spindle maximum number of CP modules
Alarm 16670 fires when an NC program attempts to activate more generic couplings (CP) on a spindle/axis than the system is configured to support. The machine parameter MD18450 defines the maximum number of simultaneous couplings allowed per channel, and exceeding this limit triggers this alarm during block execution.

Root Cause Summary
Alarm 16670 fires when an NC program attempts to activate more generic couplings (CP) on a spindle/axis than the system is configured to support. The machine parameter MD18450 defines the maximum number of simultaneous couplings allowed per channel, and exceeding this limit triggers this alarm during block execution.
Safety
Causes and Fixes
Navigate to Siemens HMI > Diagnostics > Machine Data > MD18450 and verify the current maximum coupling limit value for the affected channel.
Count the total number of simultaneous COUP commands in the NC program block sequence—check for nested or overlapping coupling activations that remain active across multiple blocks.
Couplings persist until explicitly decoupled with DECOUP; verify program logic does not accumulate active couplings unintentionally.
Increase MD18450 to a value equal to or greater than the maximum concurrent couplings required, then reload the channel configuration via PLC > Restart Channel or machine reset.
Re-run the NC program and confirm block %2 executes without alarm 16670.
