Siemens 10751 - Block danger of collision due to tool radius compensation

Block danger of collision due to tool radius compensation

The "Bottleneck detection" (calculation of intersection for the following compensated traversing blocks) has not been able to calculate a point of intersection for the reviewed number of traversing blocks. It is therefore possible that one of the equidistant paths violates the workpiece contour Control reaction: Correction block is reorganized. Local alarm reaction. Interface signals are set. Alarm display. NC Stop on alarm at block end.

Root Cause Summary

SINUMERIK alarm 10751 occurs when the actual axis position deviates from the commanded position beyond the configured following error tolerance (MD32200). This indicates servo loop performance degradation due to mechanical issues, drive parameter mistuning, or excessive load conditions.

Safety

  • Only qualified personnel should diagnose and clear control alarms; follow the machine builder's safety procedures and lockout/tagout where hardware work is required.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check axis movement manually

With drives disabled, manually move the axis to detect binding, excessive friction, or mechanical obstructions.

Ensure machine is in safe state and drives are properly disabled before manual movement

  2. 2

    Inspect lubrication system

Verify proper lubrication of linear guides, ballscrews, and bearing surfaces. Check lubricant levels and distribution.

Use SINUMERIK diagnostic screen 'Service' > 'Lubrication' to verify automatic lubrication cycles

  3. 3

    Examine mechanical components

Inspect ballscrew backlash, coupling condition, and bearing wear. Check for debris or contamination in guide ways.

Monitor MD32700 (backlash compensation) values for changes indicating mechanical wear

  4. 4

    Verify motor coupling integrity

Check motor-to-ballscrew coupling for looseness, wear, or misalignment that could cause position lag.

Loose couplings can cause catastrophic failure if not addressed immediately

DIY Feasiblemedium confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Motor encoder replacement required
  • ·Drive amplifier hardware failure
  • ·Mechanical component replacement needed
  • ·Following error persists after parameter optimization

Prevention

  • Regular lubrication maintenance per manufacturer schedule
  • Periodic servo parameter verification and optimization
  • Monitor cutting loads and adjust programs accordingly
  • Implement predictive maintenance on mechanical components

Common Mistakes

  • Ignoring gradual following error increase
  • Adjusting following error limits instead of addressing root cause
  • Running servo optimization without checking mechanical condition first
  • Overlooking encoder cable integrity during troubleshooting
