Siemens 10752 - Block overflow of local block buffer with tool radius compensation

Block overflow of local block buffer with tool radius compensation

The cutter radius compensation must buffer a variable number of intermediate blocks in order to enable calculation of the equidistant tool path for each NC block. The size of the buffer cannot be determined by simple means. It depends on the number of blocks without traversing information in the compensation plane, the number of contour elements to be inserted and the shape of the curvature in spline and polynomial interpolation. The size of the buffer is fixed by the system and cannot be changed via the MDs Control reaction: Correction block is reorganized. Local alarm reaction. Interface signals are set. Alarm display. NC Stop on alarm at block end.

Root Cause Summary

SINUMERIK alarm 10752 occurs when axis velocity exceeds the limit defined in MD32000 MAX_AX_VELO. This can result from excessive programmed feedrates, incorrect machine data configuration, or encoder feedback issues causing false velocity readings.

Safety

  • Only qualified personnel should diagnose and clear control alarms; follow the machine builder's safety procedures and lockout/tagout where hardware work is required.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check current MD32000 value

Access HMI > Commissioning > Machine Data > Channel/Axis Specific > MD32000 MAX_AX_VELO and note the configured maximum velocity for the affected axis.

Compare this value against your machine's actual capability - it should be 10-20% below mechanical limits

  2. 2

    Analyze NC program block

In HMI > Diagnostics > Service > NC > Actual Values, check the 'Programmed velocity' display during alarm occurrence to identify the commanded feedrate.

Do not increase MD32000 without verifying mechanical and drive system capabilities

  3. 3

    Modify program or machine data

Either reduce the programmed F-word feedrate in the NC program or increase MD32000 if mechanically justified, then reset NCK and test.

Use MD32010 JOG_VELO_RAPID to set appropriate rapid traverse limits

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Encoder replacement required
  • ·Drive amplifier hardware failure
  • ·Mechanical component damage identified

Prevention

  • Regular encoder cable inspection
  • Periodic verification of MD32000 settings
  • Drive parameter backup before changes
  • Mechanical maintenance per schedule

Common Mistakes

  • Increasing MD32000 beyond mechanical limits
  • Ignoring encoder signal quality
  • Not checking program feedrates
  • Skipping NCK reset after parameter changes
