Siemens 840D 104127 - PA: Error on reading number of geometry axes

PA: Error on reading number of geometry axes

Siemens SINUMERIK alarm 104127: PA: Error on reading number of geometry axes. This alarm indicates an error condition in the NC program or control configuration that must be resolved before the operation can continue.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 104127 occurs when the control system cannot correctly read or interpret the number of geometry axes defined in the machine or channel configuration. This typically happens due to corrupted machine data (MD), inconsistent geometry axis definitions, or configuration mismatches between the PLC and NC kernel during startup or program execution.

Safety

  • Refer to Siemens documentation
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Access machine data via HMI: Service > Machine Data > Display/Edit. Check MD20070 $MC_AXCONF_GEOAX_NAME_TAB for each channel to verify geometry axis assignments (X, Y, Z, etc.).

  2. 2

Verify MD20080 $MC_AXCONF_GEOAX_ASSIGN_TAB contains valid machine axis numbers corresponding to the geometry axes. Ensure no duplicate assignments or out-of-range values exist.

  3. 3

Cross-reference with MD10000 $MN_AXCONF_MACHAX_NAME_TAB to ensure all machine axes referenced in geometry axis assignments are properly defined at the NCK level.

Backup all machine data before making changes using Archive/Backup function

  4. 4

If corruption is found, restore machine data from a known good backup or manually correct the invalid entries, then perform a complete NCK reset (Power Off > Power On cycle).

Complete NCK reset will clear all current part programs in memory
