[up to SW 3.x only] Channel: command denied

The channel has received a command that cannot be executed, e.g.: activation of a program test in automatic mode is only possible in the reset state.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm occurs when the SINUMERIK 840D control (SW 3.x or earlier) receives a command that is not permissible in the current operating state. Most commonly triggered when attempting to activate program test functions while the channel is in automatic mode instead of reset state, or when mode-specific commands are issued in incompatible operating conditions.

Safety

  • Refer to Siemens documentation
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Press the RESET button on the machine control panel to bring the channel to RESET state.

  2. 2

Verify the channel status displays RESET in the HMI status bar before attempting to activate program test functions.

  3. 3

Activate the desired program test function (dry run, single block, optional stop) from the HMI or machine control panel.

  4. 4

If the alarm persists, check for active subprograms or interrupt routines that may be preventing proper RESET state. Cancel all active programs and retry.

Ensure no workpiece collision risk exists before resetting active programs.
