KUKA Robot KRC0478 - Edit commands inadmissible, finish movement first

Edit commands inadmissible, finish movement first

This alarm is generated when the operator initiates an edit command while the KRC4 controller is actively executing a motion instruction in the Editing without implicit block selection mode. The controller prevents mid-instruction editing to maintain program consistency and avoid undefined robot behavior during motion execution.

Common Causes

  • User pressed the edit button on the KUKA smartPAD while a LIN, MOVE, CIRC, or other motion instruction was still executing
  • Motion instruction execution time is longer than expected due to high load, reduced speed override, or long travel distance
  • Editor enable signal was sent to the controller before the previous motion block fully completed its trajectory
  • Program contains a long dwell or delay instruction that the operator mistakenly believed was a motion instruction that had finished
  • Safety system is executing an error stop or deceleration that extends the current instruction completion time

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Wait for the currently executing motion instruction to complete fully before attempting any edit operations
  2. 2Monitor the program execution status on the KUKA smartPAD display to confirm the motion instruction has finished
  3. 3If motion is taking unusually long, check the override speed setting and reduce any external load on the robot
  4. 4Press the stop button to halt execution gracefully, then wait for the robot to reach a complete stop before editing
  5. 5In the KRL program editor, review the block structure and motion instruction parameters to understand expected execution duration
  6. 6Avoid pressing edit buttons or commands while the robot is moving; use a formal pause or stop sequence first to reach a safe edit point
