KUKA Robot KRC0376 - SCC OVERFLOW

SCC OVERFLOW

The Serial Communication Controller (SCC) buffer has overflowed, indicating that incoming serial data is being received faster than the controller can process it. This occurs when the baud rate configured for serial communication is set too high for the system to handle the incoming data stream without losing information. The overflow causes data corruption and communication errors between the robot controller and external devices.

Common Causes

  • Baud rate configured higher than the SCC can reliably process (typically exceeding 19200 bps for standard KRC controllers)
  • Insufficient buffer memory available due to concurrent communication tasks or high system load
  • Poor cable shielding or electromagnetic interference causing data transmission errors and retransmission requests
  • Mismatch between configured baud rate and actual peripheral device baud rate settings
  • Serial port hardware limitations or driver issues preventing proper data handling at high speeds

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Reduce the baud rate setting in the KRC controller configuration to 9600 bps or 14400 bps and verify the peripheral device matches this rate
  2. 2Access the serial communication settings in the KRC controller via teach pendant or WorkVisual and verify SCC configuration parameters
  3. 3Check physical serial cable connections for damage, loose connectors, or improper shielding that could cause communication errors
  4. 4Verify that no other high-priority tasks are consuming excessive system resources that could prevent timely SCC data processing
  5. 5Monitor the system with diagnostic tools to confirm data transmission is stable at the reduced baud rate before increasing speed incrementally
  6. 6If communication at lower baud rates is stable, consult the KUKA hardware specifications to determine the maximum safe baud rate for your specific KRC controller model
