KUKA Robot KRC0203 - General Motion Enable Missing

General Motion Enable Missing

The KRC4/KRC5 controller has detected that the General Motion Enable signal from the safety circuit is not present or has been interrupted. This signal is required from external safety devices (emergency stops, enabling switches, safety PLCs) to allow robot motion. The robot will remain in a safe state and cannot be moved until the signal is restored and the fault is acknowledged.

Common Causes

  • Emergency stop button is engaged or stuck in activated position on smartPAD or external control panel
  • Enabling switch on smartPAD is not in the correct middle detent position or has failed internally
  • External safety relay or safety PLC has dropped out due to interlock condition or power loss
  • Wiring fault or loose connection on X11 safety interface connector pins for motion enable signal
  • Faulty KPP (KUKA Power Pack) safety board or ESC (Emergency Stop Card) not providing enable signal to KRC

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Step 1: Check all emergency stop buttons on smartPAD and external panels are released and properly reset by rotating clockwise
  2. 2Step 2: Verify smartPAD enabling switch operates smoothly through all three positions and is held in middle detent position during motion attempt
  3. 3Step 3: Inspect X11 safety connector on KRC cabinet for tight seating and check pins 1-32 for any bent pins or corrosion
  4. 4Step 4: Use multimeter to measure 24VDC presence on X11 connector motion enable input pins while enabling switch is pressed (refer to cabinet schematic for specific pin assignments)
  5. 5Step 5: Check safety relay status LEDs inside control cabinet and verify external safety circuit continuity from field devices through to KRC X11 inputs
  6. 6Step 6: Replace smartPAD if enabling switch is mechanical faulty or contact KUKA service if KPP/ESC boards are suspected after confirming all external signals are correct
