HEIDENHAIN 320-0424 - PLC: Too many events

PLC: Too many events

This error condition indicates plc: too many events. The control has detected an issue that requires attention before normal operation can resume.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 320-0424 occurs when the PLC program attempts to define more than 15 events for a single SPAWN process in the cooperative multitasking environment. This indicates excessive event handling within a spawned PLC task, typically caused by programming errors or recursive event creation.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Access PLC program editor

Press MOD key, select 'PLC program' from machine parameters menu, then access the PLC editor to review spawned processes.

  2. 2

    Identify SPAWN processes with events

Search for SPAWN statements in the PLC code and examine each spawned process for EVENT definitions using the search function (CTRL+F).

  3. 3

    Count and consolidate events

Count EVENT statements in each SPAWN process. If >15 found, consolidate similar events or split the process into multiple SPAWN tasks.

Use event flags or combine multiple conditions into single events to reduce count.

  4. 4

    Recompile PLC program

After modifications, recompile the PLC program using 'Compile PLC' function and restart the control to clear the alarm.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·PLC program corruption persists after restore
  • ·Unable to identify source of excessive events
  • ·SPAWN processes cannot be terminated

Prevention

  • Limit EVENT definitions to maximum 10 per SPAWN process
  • Implement proper SPAWN process termination
  • Regular PLC program backup and validation
  • Use event consolidation techniques

Common Mistakes

  • Not counting events in nested functions within SPAWN
  • Forgetting to clear events in process cleanup
  • Creating events in loops without exit conditions
  • Not monitoring active SPAWN process count
