HEIDENHAIN 239-02F3 - 2F3 UM-FSUC: deactivation of drive failed CC

2F3 UM-FSUC: deactivation of drive failed CC

The drive could not be deactivated because it is not in a safe state. Safety conditions are not met for shutdown.

Root Cause Summary

The TNC control issued a deactivation command via the UM-FSUC safety protocol but did not receive proper acknowledgment from the inverter module within the expected timeout period. This indicates either a breakdown in the safety-rated communication path between control and drive, or a hardware fault in the UM module preventing it from executing or confirming the deactivation.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check physical cable connections

Inspect X116/X126 encoder/drive interface connectors on NCK board. Check cable routing for pinching, excessive bending near connectors, or proximity to power cables causing EMI interference on DRIVE-CLiQ/EnDat signals.

Disconnect control power before inspecting cable connections to prevent accidental ground faults.

  2. 2

    Monitor communication diagnostics

Navigate to PLC>Diagnostics>Communication and monitor real-time telegram statistics for the affected CC channel. Look for CRC errors, telegram dropouts, or increased latency values during drive enable/disable cycles.

If error counters increment only during deactivation (not activation), suspect noise coupling during power stage switching - check shield grounding at both ends.

  3. 3

    Test with reduced bus load

Temporarily disconnect non-critical devices from the DRIVE bus (additional encoders, I/O modules) to isolate whether bus overload is preventing timely FSUC response. Re-enable one at a time to identify problematic device.

UM-FSUC telegrams have priority, but excessive bus traffic can cause jitter in timing-critical deactivation sequences on older UM firmware versions.

DIY Feasiblemedium confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Encoder replacement required
  • ·Safety system reconfiguration needed
  • ·Drive amplifier replacement required
  • ·UM-FSUC module hardware failure

Prevention

  • Regular encoder cable inspection
  • Maintain clean electrical connections
  • Monitor drive temperatures
  • Perform periodic safety system testing

Common Mistakes

  • Bypassing safety circuits instead of fixing root cause
  • Not allowing sufficient settling time after STOP
  • Ignoring intermittent encoder signal issues
  • Resetting drives repeatedly without investigating fault cause
