HEIDENHAIN 239-0042 - 42 UM-FSUC: internal communication error CC
This alarm indicates a breakdown in the internal deterministic communication between the NC control kernel and the UM-FSUC drive communication subsystem. The UM-FSUC is responsible for managing real-time axis command data, and communication failure prevents the NC from controlling axes safely. Root causes are typically hardware-related: failed communication modules, corrupted firmware, or damaged internal bus connections.

42 UM-FSUC: internal communication error CC
The FS microcontroller detected an internal communication error within the inverter. Cyclic data exchange is disrupted.
Root Cause Summary
This alarm indicates a breakdown in the internal deterministic communication between the NC control kernel and the UM-FSUC drive communication subsystem. The UM-FSUC is responsible for managing real-time axis command data, and communication failure prevents the NC from controlling axes safely. Root causes are typically hardware-related: failed communication modules, corrupted firmware, or damaged internal bus connections.

Causes and Fixes
Verify Alarm Parameters
Record the complete alarm text including CC%2 channel number and %10 additional code. This identifies which physical UM-FSUC module and communication path has failed. Typically CC0 or CC1 corresponds to specific axis groups.
The %2 value indicates the communication channel - multiple alarms on the same CC channel suggest module-level failure rather than individual axis issues.
Visual Hardware Inspection
Power down the control and open the cabinet. Locate the UM-FSUC board (usually mounted on the MC main board assembly). Inspect for visible damage: burn marks, capacitor swelling, or component discoloration.
Disconnect all power and wait minimum 5 minutes for capacitor discharge before opening control cabinet or touching internal components.
Check Module Status LEDs
Power up and observe the status LEDs on the UM-FSUC module during boot sequence. Normal operation shows green steady LED. Red or no LED indicates module initialization failure.
If LED remains red or cycles repeatedly, the module firmware may be corrupted or the hardware is defective.
Attempt Module Reinitialization
Access MOD function > System > Module Configuration. Attempt to reinitialize the UM-FSUC module. If module does not appear in the list or reinitialization fails, hardware replacement is required.
Contact Heidenhain service with your control serial number and alarm details - UM-FSUC modules are serialized and may require configuration data transfer.
