HEIDENHAIN 235-0045 - HSCI connection error

HSCI connection error

A connection fault has been detected on the HSCI bus. The control cannot maintain stable communication with peripheral devices.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm is specifically triggered when the TNC control's HSCI master cannot establish or maintain communication with one or more slave devices on the HSCI bus. The root cause is almost always physical layer issues (cables, connections, termination) or a failed component on the HSCI network. Unlike general network errors, HSCI is Heidenhain's proprietary high-speed serial bus used exclusively for internal control component communication.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Power down and inspect connectors

Switch off main power and disconnect 24VDC supply. Remove and inspect all X116 and X126 HSCI connectors at the NC unit, PLC module, and any inverter modules. Look for bent pins, corrosion, or contamination.

Always disconnect power before handling internal control connectors to prevent damage to HSCI communication boards.

  2. 2

    Reseat all HSCI cables

Firmly reseat each HSCI cable connection, ensuring you hear or feel the locking mechanism engage. Verify cable strain relief is properly installed to prevent vibration-induced disconnection.

Mark each cable position before removal with tape labels to ensure correct reconnection sequence on the HSCI bus chain.

  3. 3

    Inspect cable routing

Check that HSCI cables are routed away from servo motor cables, spindle power lines, and switching power supplies. Maintain minimum 100mm separation from high-voltage/high-current conductors.

HSCI cables should be the short, specific Heidenhain-supplied shielded cables with proper EMC ferrite cores intact.

  4. 4

    Test with known-good cable

If available, substitute a known-good HSCI cable (Heidenhain part number specific to your control generation) and retest to eliminate cable as the failure point.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·TNC internal HSCI interface suspected
  • ·Multiple component failures
  • ·Persistent alarm after cable/configuration verification

Prevention

  • Regular HSCI cable inspection
  • Proper cable strain relief
  • Maintain clean electrical connections
  • Document HSCI network configuration

Common Mistakes

  • Checking connections while powered
  • Ignoring termination requirements
  • Not documenting parameter changes
  • Assuming single point failure
