HEIDENHAIN 120-0027 - Unable to open configuration server queue

Unable to open configuration server queue

This TNC7/TNC 640 error (120-0027) relates to 'Unable to open configuration server queue'. Error in the system-inherent communication.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm stems from the control's inability to establish internal message queuing required for the configuration server daemon to operate. The configuration server manages machine parameters, axis configurations, and system settings - its queue failure indicates either operating system resource problems, corrupted configuration data preventing proper initialization, or fundamental system-level software failures in the TNC's real-time kernel.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Complete power cycle

Turn off the main power to the control cabinet for at least 30 seconds (not just E-Stop or control restart). This clears all memory allocations and resets the operating system's resource management completely.

Ensure machine is in a safe state and all axes are secured before removing power.

  2. 2

    Check system resource usage

After restart, access MOD function, navigate to System Information, and check memory usage and process statistics. Look for unusually high memory consumption or low available system memory (should have >100MB free on most TNC models).

On iTNC 530 and TNC 620/640 controls, normal system memory usage at idle should be below 60%. Higher values indicate resource leaks.

  3. 3

    Disable third-level programs temporarily

In MOD - Machine Parameters - CfgPgmMgt, set CfgPLC[0].active = 0 to disable PLC startup, then restart control. If alarm clears, a third-level program or PLC cycle is causing resource exhaustion.

You can also rename SYS\plc.dir to SYS\plc.old to prevent all PLC programs from loading during diagnostic startup.

  4. 4

    Review recent configuration changes

Check if alarm appeared after adding new third-level functions, LSV2 connections, or remote desktop services. Remove recently added services one at a time to identify the resource consumer.

DIY Feasiblemedium confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·If hardware diagnostics indicate a control module failure requiring replacement.
  • ·If the alarm persists after attempting firmware updates and configuration resets.

Prevention

  • Regularly update firmware to the latest stable version to avoid software glitches.
  • Perform routine checks on communication cables and connections to prevent disruptions.
  • Maintain a backup of configuration settings to quickly restore after corruption issues.

Common Mistakes

  • Ignoring error logs and attempting resets without diagnosing the root cause.
  • Updating firmware without backing up current settings, leading to loss of custom configurations.
