Emergency Stop Activated

This alarm indicates the emergency stop circuit is open, meaning at least one E-stop button is pressed or the safety relay circuit has detected a fault condition. The E-stop circuit on Haas machines runs through safety relays on the IOCON and breaks power to motion control and spindle systems. Machine will not operate until the E-stop condition is cleared and control is reset.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 99 fires when the red emergency stop button is pressed, when safety circuits are interrupted, or when the NGC control detects a critical safety condition requiring immediate machine shutdown. The alarm remains active until the E-stop circuit is physically reset and all safety interlocks are satisfied.

Safety

  • Never override or defeat emergency stop system functionality
  • Always verify machine is safe before resetting emergency stop
  • Keep emergency stop button accessible to all machine operators at all times

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Locate Active E-Stop Button

Check all E-stop buttons - control pendant, machine cabinet, and any optional remote stations. Look for buttons in the pressed/extended position.

Do not reset E-stop until you verify the reason it was activated and ensure area is safe

  2. 2

    Reset E-Stop Button

Twist the pressed E-stop button clockwise until it pops out to the normal position. You should hear/feel a distinct click when properly reset.

If button doesn't stay reset, the E-stop mechanism may be damaged and requires replacement

  3. 3

    Clear Alarm and Reset System

Press RESET on the control to clear Alarm 99, then press POWER UP to re-energize the machine systems and restore normal operation.

Machine will go through normal power-up sequence including spindle orientation and reference return if required
