Haas 902 - PARAMETERS HAVE BEEN LOADED BY RS232 | Haas CNC Alarm

PARAMETERS HAVE BEEN LOADED BY RS232

This informational message indicates that machine parameters have been successfully loaded into the Haas control via RS-232 serial communication from an external device such as a computer or laptop. The parameter transfer overwrites existing values in control memory with those transmitted through the serial port, potentially altering critical machine settings including axis configuration, spindle parameters, and system behavior. Operator acknowledgment is required before the control resumes normal operation.

Safety

  • Position may be lost

Common Causes

  • Technician used laptop with serial cable to upload parameter backup file during machine setup, repair, or control board replacement
  • Parameters transmitted via RS-232 as part of remote service procedure or software update performed by Haas technical support
  • Computer-based parameter management software sent configuration file through serial connection for machine standardization across shop floor
  • Incorrect COM port settings or corrupted data during RS-232 transmission resulted in partial or garbled parameter load
  • Wrong parameter file selected on computer and transmitted to machine, loading settings from different machine model or revision

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Step 1: Press RESET button to clear the informational message and acknowledge that parameters have been loaded via RS-232
  2. 2Step 2: Verify RS-232 communication settings (baud rate, parity, stop bits) matched between sending device and Haas control to ensure clean data transfer
  3. 3Step 3: Review parameter list focusing on machine-specific values such as axis limits (Parameters 28-33), ball screw pitch (Parameters 35-37), and spindle gear ratios
  4. 4Step 4: Compare critical parameter values against machine documentation or previous backup to confirm correct file was transmitted
  5. 5Step 5: Perform dry run of typical operations including axis moves, tool changes, and spindle rotation to verify machine functions properly with loaded parameters
  6. 6Step 6: If parameters are incorrect or machine behaves abnormally, immediately retransmit correct parameter file via RS-232 or load from USB backup before operating machine
